Boulanger

I looked to you, believed you could
set the world right,
but when they pushed
you didn’t shove,
you didn’t stand up.
Your instinct was to run.

Run away! Run away! Run, run away!
But it’s hard without a backbone to
get away! Get away! Get, get away!
So slither like the snake you are.
Lay low! Lay low! Keep your head low!

I believed in you, needed you
to be a sign of strength,
but faced with fight or flight
you spread the wings
you were born with;
so naturally it comes.

Fly away! Fly away! Fly, fly away!
But it’s hard without a backbone to
get away! Get away! Get, get away!
So slither like the snake you are.
Lay low! Lay low! Keep your head low!

Two years later standing on the grave of the one you loved,
you took your life.

With a circle of cowardice completed,
at least you finally stood for something.
